Troyes City Guide
Much more than a museum, the Maison de l’Outil bears witness to human intelligence and mastery in creating the tools needed to perform a specific task. A question of ingenuity, craft and art. MOPO has 12,000 handcrafting tools on display from the XVII, XVII and XIX century, which reveal the close bond between craftsmen carrying out a profession, and the raw material. Intelligence, passion, technique, transmission: this extraordinary museum will appeal to anyone who suspects that behind every creation there lies the effort and love of the artisan who designed and made the article with such great care.
The Maison de l’Outil et de la Pensée Ouvrière is housed in one of Troyes’ most beautiful buildings, the Hotel Mauroy. A cultural treasure built circa 1400, rebuilt in 1550 and listed a Historic Monument in 1862, the Hotel Mauroy was restored in 1953 by the Compagnons du Devoir du Tour de France. Not to be missed.
